• A scientific description

  We have been in the far north for nearly three months. This new ice breaker ship has been able to go farther into the ice caps than any other ship before it. I can't see how anyone could have come this far north with out a steamer like ours. But that is beside the point. This morning the Scout team came across a peculiar beast frozen in the ice.
  They had requested that I try to identify it...I was not prepared for what I was about to see. It was quite a large thing its back arched inward oddly with a pair of rather large feathered wings flared out. One obviously broken and twisted in an unnatural pose. I have never seen something frozen like this before either...you can actually see trails of blood in the cloudy ice trailing from its face chest and that wing. It seems that this thing was flash frozen while it was still alive even the airation from it hitting the water froze instantly making its form cloudy making it hard to discern details of the creature. I suspect it might be some sort of dragon but Its not any sort of dragon I've ever seen before. I managed to talk them into cutting it out of the ice so that I can do an Autopsy upon it. I also took the time to do a preliminary sketch of it so I can compare it to other species in the books. Its probably gona take a day or two to cut it out of that iceberg anyway.
  
  After nearly a week and a half they finally managed to get the block of ice containing the creature on deck. And the men have been meticulously chiseling away at the ice. For some reason the ice is as hard as granite and taking quite a while to chip away. The tail seems to be a fair bit longer than expected and they've discovered an odd blade upon its head. Perhaps some sort of tribal head dress as it seems to be made of polished ebony. Honestly though I can't wait to get it out of the ice and onto the table!
  
  Its been two days now and they got almost all of the bulk ice off of it. We opted to bring it below deck so that it wouldn't start to decay. Though we didn't expect it to be as heavy as it is It took a good few hours and six men to get it below deck so that it can slow thaw. By tomorrow it should be pliable enough to get it out of that contorted shape and onto the table. Its a shame I can't get it into my lab as I don't really like working in the cargo hold...but sadly that was the only way to get it down here..through the cargo hatch.
  
  Now for the work to begin. We got it thawed out and onto the table. Its in remarkable condition... No decay to speak of. Although it was obvious this thing was killed fighting something else. Humerus of the right wing was broken and came through the skin. The flesh there is black from frostbite. We got the wing turned over and discovered that the Ulna and radius were both broken. The wings are of a feathered variety. Its got several primary and secondary feathers missing on the damaged wing. And a great many feathers are actually charred. We fully extended the good wing and it measures from shoulder to outer primary feather tip seventeen feet and four inches. Full wingspan estimated at 34 feet eight inches.
